LTE Data rates, frequency and bandwidth.
In digital computing data rates are computed as number of  bits that can be transmitted over the air in one unit of time. The comparison of data rates between 3G and 4G technologies is discussed below.

LTE Data rates
The data rates shown in table above are in units of Mega(10^6) bits per second. The rates are calculated using mathematical models.

In practical, the data rates are generally reduced to one fourth of mathematical figures. There are several bottlenecks in modem physical layer and data link layer protocols that can effect actual data rate. These high data rates are highly suited for HD or 1080p videos, gaming, voip, web surfing etc.

LTE frequencies and bandwidth
USA is leading in LTE network launch. The two carriers who operate with LTE are within the 700 MHz frequency band.  AT&T will operate mostly within the 704-746 MHz bands. Verizon’s will utilize the 746-787 MHz frequencies.

Within that spectrum LTE can operate with different frequency bandwidths. For each bandwidth there is a corresponding number of allocated resource blocks.
